Jayla is a very hard-working girl. If I say Jayla is one of the most trusted students in our class, I think nobody will doubt that. However, after the interview, I found that Jayla is just a normal girl.

Jayla has her dream university — McGill University. She thinks the admission requirements for McGill University are not very high, so it will not be too hard for her. The subjects there are very suitable to girls. Jayla said that she can also learn French there. That will help her a lot after graduation.

Although Jayla always gets high marks, she thinks the most difficult subject to her is Science. She can’t understand many sentences in the textbook well at first. She needs to memorize a lot of vocabulary and those words have never appeared in Chinese school. To overcome it, she usually spends a lot of time after class to reciting them and reading them again and again. Now she thinks she can follow the teacher better than before.

Jayla spends about 2 to 3 hours to finish her homework after school. She makes a rule that she has to go to bed before 23:30. She doesn’t want to be sleepy the next day in class. Other than homework, she usually watches TV on weekends. To my surprise, she likes funny programs best, such as “Day Day Up” and “Happy Camp”. These programs can make her laugh and feel relaxed.

From the interview, I learnt that she thinks learning makes her feel happy. “Although learning is difficult and hard, after learning some new knowledge, I feel proud of myself.” When she first came to this school, she knew almost nothing about Canada. But after learning for a few months, she is very interested in Canada.

Then I asked her some questions. The answers are — if she wanted to lose weight, she would do exercise every day and keep a healthy diet, such as eating different vegetables and fruits. However, Jayla is a very thin girl, so probably she will never have to lose weight. And she wants to be healthier because she thinks health is one of the most important things for a person. If a person catches some disease, he/she will feel upset and tired every day. And her ideal height is 170cm, the same as her height now.

To connect with the situation now, I asked her what she bought on Singles Day. Many of my classmates bought a lot of things. Most of them spent more than 300 yuan. “Some clothes and a scarf,” she answered naturally. She doesn’t want to buy cheap but useless things on Singles Day, so she only bought the things she needed for winter.

Although Jayla behaves great at school, she is a normal, lovely girl. She has the same hobbies as ours. She keeps a balance between work and play, and that’s what we should learn from her.
