Last week the Chemistry 12 and Fine Art 12 classes had a cooperative project making acid rain documentaries. Documentaries seem boring and monotonous to many students, but our groups all had some special ideas. Each group went to a different place to make a video and find ways to make it interesting.

Jessica’s group imagined John as a mad scientist. He goes to a place hard-hit by acid rain – our high school. They introduce a real situation close to our lives and appeal to the audience to prevent acid rain. Jessica from chemistry 12 said: “to cooperate with fine art class is original and both of the two classes can learn from each other, but there is too much work in a short period. All the group members felt a little bit tired.”

Amber’s group’s video is more like an adventure reality show, “Running Wild with Baer Grylls”. Jerry Xiao plays the role of Baer and he finds lots of phenomena caused by acid rain. This group uses a flashy opening to the TV show to attract the audience. “Although I am not a chemistry student and I cannot understand the chemistry in the video, I still felt good visiting a zoo park while filming the video” said Anny from fine arts 12.

Michelle’s group used a unique way to present the film. Films are produced by recording images from the world with cameras, or by creating images using animation techniques or special effects. This group decided to use stop motion pictures to make the film. The major actor is a dead fish who’s soul travels the world trying to find why he died. They personified a fish to build a fairy tale world and then learn about acid rain.

Another member of chemistry 12 (Jerry Liang) said: “Although we need to finish a lot of work like a poster and video, we enjoyed the time working with our team members and have a nice memory.”

In conclusion, every member learned different things from this acid rain documentary assignment and enjoyed themselves. Let’s look forward to which group has the best documentary and poster.
