I would like to give a warm welcome to everyone here at Luwan, both new and returning students. New students, push your comfort zones, try new things, get the most out of your time here at Luwan. Returning students, I’m very proud of all the great work you’ve done and look forward to seeing your continual development as well-rounded human beings.
As always, there will be many opportunities for you to leave your mark here at Luwan and to develop your leadership skills. I’m very strongly encouraged by all the interest that the new grade 10s have shown in joining the student council, by how many of you are participating in club activities and by the positive spirit I see at the school each and every day.
In previous years, many students took the initiative to lead the school in new directions, for example by organizing exciting activities, by being a house team captain and contributing to the school newsletter. I look forward to seeing what new directions we pursue this year.
Academically, last year was our strongest yet, with over 85% of the students on the honours roll or principal’s list (GPA above 3.0). Our graduating class was offered $11,000 per student on average in scholarships and over 75% of them received offers from the world’s top 100 universities.
I can tell you that very few schools can boast of these kinds of achievements. Last year’s graduates should all be proud of themselves. Current students, I expect even greater achievements from you. You CAN make your dreams come true and be the person you want to be.
Last but not least, I’m very proud of all the improvements you are making to your English here at Luwan. The chit-chat program has been a lot of fun and has really helped ensure you are only speaking English all day at school. This year, I hope we can make a similar push towards reading every day to ensure your English skills are well rounded.
2017-18 represents our program’s 7th year and 4th graduating class. I am confident that with your hard work and active participation, we will continue making Luwan even better, together!
Mr. Ronald Berg
Principal
