As we finish off the first half of the 2018-2019 academic year, it’s important that we take some time to celebrate our achievements at Luwan BC. And we have a lot to celebrate!

Students are continuing to make solid overall efforts and significant progress. With cell phones no longer allowed, I can now often see students spending their lunches making social connections, playing sports, reading English, pursuing personal interests or even just catching up on school work.

It’s also a pleasure to hear everyone communicating in English during chit chat, and often even voluntarily when there is no chit chat. This will undoubtedly help students to achieve their ideal IELTS score and to succeed in an English environment.

Teachers are preparing a variety of engaging experiences for students to push their limits and build valuable life skills. The science labs are increasingly being used now that the impressive renovations have been completed. Impressive facilities!

Luwan BC also really showed its strength in science at the recent BCOS science fair, organized by Nanmo and attended by six different BC offshore schools. One of our teams managed to earn a silver medal with their impressive experiment measuring the speed of light!

I’m impressed by the variety of different passion projects being pursued. Students are marketing real businesses, learning to computer program, creating their own interactive storybooks and preparing public awareness campaigns, only to name a few.

We have also recently acquired a large volume of quality hockey equipment which we have already put to good use through two hockey tournaments. Next term I plan on beginning a hockey club so that students can get more familiar with Canada’s national sport and keep in shape.

I’m confident that students will do well on these midterms and continue to make significant strides into the future. Keep it up Luwan BC!
