Another exciting year has begun at Luwan Senior High School and it is with great excitement that I welcome all of our students, parents, and educators. I am thankful to have the pleasure to be working with such a caring and dedicated school community again this year, so we can all work together to ensure our students’ success and well-being.

Thanks to our passionate and hard-working community, Luwan’s BC Program continues to have a highly respected reputation amongst universities in Canada and around the world. I am extremely proud of our 2022 graduates and I am confident that our grade 12 students this year, who are already getting ready to apply to universities in Canada and around the world, will achieve great results in their BC classes and university offers. Our grade 11 students are playing an important role in helping our new students feel more comfortable in our program and in modeling positive behaviours and attitudes. With the students’ and teachers’ great support, the grade 10s have already adapted very well to their new environment and have already made their place as part of our Luwan BC Family.

As we begin this school year, remember that growth, in any shape or form, is valuable. As I always tell the students, growth happens when you step out of your comfort zone. Even though it might be a little scary at times, going beyond your fears will help you grow into the individuals you want to become and help you achieve your goals. Mistakes will be inevitable along the way, so remember to be nice to yourself and that mistakes also help you grow. The only things that are between you and your goals are, dedication, perseverance, and a sincere trust in yourself. Remember that the best version of yourself is yet to come and that having a growth mindset is the number one key to success. In no matter what we are doing, we need to believe in ourselves so that growth can happen. Resilience is essential when meeting challenges and so is taking care of our mental and physical health, so I am hoping that all of our students will keep setting high goals for themselves in order to keep a clear focus on their dreams.

Again, this year, our BC core competencies will be at the centre of our daily activities to ensure that students not only possess the 21st century-skills necessary to face any challenges they meet in the future, but also become thoughtful, creative, and independent global citizens.

I know I speak on behalf of everyone when I say that, together, we will make this school year another fantastic one!

I wish you all a wonderful 2022-2023 school year.
