Our Principal
A new school year is beginning at Luwan Senior High School, and it’s exciting to welcome both familiar faces and students who are new to our BC Program. I’m especially happy to be back and to share another year with our students, families, and staff. The start of a new school year is a great time to set new goals, try something different, and make the most of the opportunities ahead.
At Luwan BC, we want our students to aim high, challenge themselves, and take pride in what they do. Excellence is about more than strong results; it is also about the experience along the way, being kind, curious, thoughtful, confident, and willing to step outside your comfort zone. It means taking pride in your work, building positive relationships, and having the determination to keep going when things become challenging. Most importantly, we want every student to recognize their strengths, learn from their experiences, and develop the skills and confidence they will carry with them long after they leave Luwan.
Our approach is grounded in the values at the heart of the BC curriculum. Through communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and personal and social responsibility, we encourage students to become capable, well-rounded young people who can make a positive contribution wherever their future takes them. Just as we challenge our students to grow, we want them to know that behind every student is a community of people who believe in them, encourage them, and genuinely want to see them succeed.
I look forward to seeing our students take on new challenges, celebrate their achievements, support one another, and continue becoming the people they want to be. I’m grateful to be part of that journey and excited for all that this year will bring.
Have a fantastic 2026–2027 school year!
Ms. Naomie Fortin

Luwan Senior High School – BC Program
About us
Luwan Senior High School was established in 1953 in Shanghai, China. The British Columbia Program was established in 2012.
As a British Columbia Offshore School, the BC Program delivers the same curriculum to its students as do schools in British Columbia, Canada. The school is inspected yearly by the British Columbia Ministry of Education to assure that we are meeting the requirements of a BC school. Upon graduation from our 3-year program, students receive a Dogwood Certificate (Grade 12 Diploma). The British Columbia Dogwood Certificate is recognized by universities world-wide.
To help students to succeed in a rapidly changing world, educators need to move the focus away from merely providing teacher-centered delivery of content. That’s why at Luwan BC, we focus on developing the basic skills that students will need for success in life, like reading, writing, math, critical thinking, collaboration and communication. This teaching is delivered through real-world experiences related to students’ interests and passions.
Students are taught in English by BC certified teachers and they use the same textbooks as students in British Columbia. Examples of courses taught in our school include: English Language Arts, English Language Learner, Social Studies, Math, Calculus, Science, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, IT, Visual / Performing Arts, Physical Education and Mandarin.
Upon graduation, students may also receive a Chinese High School diploma. They study certain courses according to the Chinese curriculum, such as Chinese History, Geography and Politics.
Luwan Senior High School offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities including athletics as part of the BC offshore school league, competing against other BC offshore schools across the Shanghai area. We also have intra-school house competitions, student union, and clubs such as Model United Nations, music, Ultimate Frisbee, AP Calculus and French.
