From May 23rd to May 27th 2016, Luwan Senior High School’s BC Program held an English Olympics event. Students had a good time playing games to improve their English level. The English Olympics consisted of four parts called Boggle, Word Relay, Family Feud and Speed Reading. The finals were held on Friday. The winners were Grey Team for Boggle, Orange for Word Relay, Red for Family Feud and Pink for Speed Reading.
I am a member of the Grey Sharks and joined the Boggle event. This was a new game for me. It required a high level of vocabulary and spelling. Before Mr. Berg explained, all of us felt confused with the roles of the game. Our team did not get a good mark on the first round, but we started to learn how to play and find words in the second round.
We hadn’t experienced it before, so we tried our best to write every word we knew. Through our efforts, we made it to the finals. In the finals, everyone looked nervous, so we encouraged each other. We were the winner in the end.
“That was an amazing game for me and my hand is just flying in the air” said Catherine who joined the finals for Speed Reading. Whoever the winner is, everybody enjoyed the process. “I hope we can have these kinds of games next year! That was a lot of fun” said Yiran from Grade 12.
English Olympics is a good way to encourage us to learn English and test our English skill. Through this event we can know our English level too. English Olympics not only reminds us to learn English but makes our school life more enjoyable.
