The Waterloo Mathematics Competition was held at the Luwan Senior High School Library on April 13th, 2016. The math questions come from the world famous Department of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. Luwan Senior High School students took this chance to join the competition; partly out of interest and partly to improve their chances of entering a top university.

All grade 10 students joined this competition, and many grade 11s and 12s also joined. The competition began at 8:00 a.m. There were 10 questions which took 2 and half hours to complete.

“The questions were middle school difficulty level. Unfortunately, I forgot how to solve these types of question,” William said. John thought the whole test was not too complex to understand the questions; he spent more time on the last two questions.

Most of students gained the certificate of merit, meaning that they were in the top 25%. All in all, this was a good chance for students to evaluate their own math level and improve their skills.
