In Luwan’s BC program, it’s a tradition that students have different types of house team events every Wednesday. This year, the student council decided to hold a basketball tournament over two Wednesdays, October 11th and 18th. Basketball is a popular activity in our school, since most students are familiar with it. This competition broke up the students’ daily routine and made a deep impression. Today, I will express students’ opinions and advice about this activity.

All the students put effort into this basketball competition. The boys, especially the grade 10 students, paid a lot of attention to the game, contributing to this high quality basketball show. The combined pink / green team won first place for the boys, so they got a chance to play against with teachers. Though they lost the game, they still did well, losing 18-10. The girls also exerted themselves. They tried their best to dribble and shoot. Grade 12 students Sharon and Jomcy cooperated well, passing the ball frequently and trying to score. Lola did particularly well, always catching and grabbing the ball from her opponents. In accordance with expectation, the combined red / yellow team won first place for the girls, while Grey and Orange team won second.

As one of the students, I heard lots of opinions and impressions from my peers. A grade 10 student Fancy was satisfied with the competition: “It was my second time to ever join a sports event since I seldom play ball games, but this competition gave me a chance to try. Although we were not the winners, it helped me to form a friendship with my team members.” Jerry from grade 12 wanted to have more sports events. “It was helpful to strengthen our ability to cooperate which is significant for our futures.” Based on my survey, over 95% of grade 10 and grade 11 students thought the basketball tournament was exciting. In comparison, Lola felt not so good. “During the competition, Shining and I didn’t shoot well so we lost loads of chances to score and also the yellow team lost 3 chit-chat cards in only 40 minutes!” However, my research shows that most of the students thought the basketball tournament was a meaningful and competitive event which was worth  enjoying.

In general, all students enjoyed in this memorable competition, they look forward to having more sports events and letting all their classmates participate in different kinds of house team events.
