CINEC Star Student Program is for promoting and recognizing excellence in the CINEC community. This program aims to celebrate the exceptional achievements of our students and provide them with well-deserved recognition. Through a rigorous selection process, we have identified the star students for the academic years 2022-2023, who have demonstrated remarkable qualities as leaders, achievers, and active participants in various aspects of their educational journey.
The selection process for the Star Student Program involved careful evaluation and consideration by our dedicated teachers. They assessed candidates based on specific criteria that highlight academic excellence, involvement in extracurricular activities, leadership skills, and a list of awards and achievements. The criteria ensured that the chosen students truly embody the spirit of excellence within our community.
Without further ado, we proudly announce the Star Students for the academic years 2022-2023:
Grade 12: Peter Zhu and Carol Shao
Grade 11: Darwin Zhu and Milia Lin
Grade 10: Selina Bao and Toshua Sun
These students have consistently demonstrated exceptional qualities that set them apart from their peers. Millia’s vivacious and cheerful personality sets a vibrant tone within the school environment, inspiring other students to actively participate in various endeavors. Carol, known for her helpful nature, exhibits a warm and friendly attitude toward others, offering assistance whenever needed.
The Star Student Program not only recognizes students for their academic excellence but also acknowledges their involvement in various extracurricular activities. These activities can include participation in school clubs, musical performances, and sports. By encouraging students to engage in such activities, we aim to foster a holistic educational experience that nurtures their talents and passions. For instance, Peter and Darwin have been actively involved in the Frisbee Club, showcasing their enthusiasm, dedication, and positive contributions to the team. Their commitment to extracurricular pursuits is an inspiration to others, highlighting the importance of well-rounded development alongside academic achievements.
Moreover, the program emphasizes the importance of leadership skills. Students who have taken on roles within the student union, captained sports teams, or exhibited outstanding leadership within the school community stand out as exemplary leaders. Their ability to inspire and motivate others is a testament to their exceptional qualities. Selina Bao and Toshua Sun demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, effectively organizing and coordinating team activities to steer the group towards shared goals.
We interviewed all the 2022-2023 star students in LWBC. As G12 students, Carol and Peter have been interviewed on “how to become star students”. They gave some suggestions for younger students and future students. Carol emphasizes the importance of setting goals and maintaining motivation and focus. She reminds students to prioritize helping others and ensuring their own health throughout the process. Also, being a star student goes beyond grades and involves enjoying the process of learning, working hard for personal growth, and becoming a well-rounded individual. Peter emphasizes the need to develop all-around abilities. Active participation in class discussions, group projects, and extracurricular activities is encouraged. Peter advises students to stay organized by managing their schedules and tasks effectively. Breaking down study goals into smaller, achievable tasks and creating a balanced study schedule that includes leisure activities is essential. Building confidence, facing challenges with perseverance, and celebrating successes are additional points Peter mentions. G11 students Darwin and Millia were interviewed on “How to Achieve Leadership”. Darwin believes that leadership is a journey of personal growth and development. He actively challenges himself and reflects on his strengths, weaknesses, and values. By understanding his advantages, he can effectively utilize them in areas he is interested in. Darwin also emphasizes the importance of continuous learning, actively seeking opportunities to expand his knowledge and skills. He participates in scientific research projects and courses during his spare time, embracing failure as an opportunity for improvement. Overall, Darwin sees every experience as a chance to learn and adapt to the world. According to Milia, leadership is a dynamic and ongoing process that requires dedication, self-reflection, and the ability to inspire and influence others. She highlights the significance of developing a clear vision and setting goals that inspire both herself and others. Effective communication plays a crucial role in leadership, as it allows for clear articulation of the vision, expectations, and ideas. Milia also emphasizes the importance of continuous learning and self-improvement. She believes in investing in personal growth through various means, such as reading, attending seminars, and seeking mentorship. By embracing new ideas and challenging assumptions, Milia strives to become an effective leader. Selina and Toshua, two 10th grade students, were interviewed on how to quickly adapt to BC high school. Selina believes that keeping a positive attitude is essential when adapting to high school life. She encourages exploring new opportunities, such as joining clubs like the frisbee team or debate club, which can help make new friends and discover passions. Selina shares her experience of joining the handball club, which facilitated bonding with classmates and forming friendships. She reassures others that feeling concerned is normal and suggests looking at the bright side. In the context of BC courses being taught in English, Selina advises asking questions to clarify any confusion and taking advantage of the supportive teacher system. She sees high school as an exciting new beginning. Toshua acknowledges that becoming a high school student, especially in the first few months, can be challenging. His approach to adapting to high school involves adjusting the learning pace. Toshua recognizes that high school is generally slower-paced than junior high, allowing for more spare time. He utilizes this spare time effectively by learning about Canadian culture, understanding the criteria for high-level learning in each subject, and getting to know his classmates better. Toshua believes that these actions better prepare him for the challenges he may face and reduce the chances of feeling overwhelmed in the new environment.
