A dodgeball tournament was held on September 21st and 28th as one of the house team competitions. The rules were easy to understand. The games were competitive.
After the teachers finished explaining the rules, everyone was active. We enjoyed ourselves and cheered for our respective teams. The Red Dragons were No.1 before the game. Unfortunately this time they only got second place. What a pity!
I had the honor of interviewing the captain of the red team, Jerry Liang. He said: “I am sorry that I am not in a condition to help my team to have a good start and establish their self-confidence. Dodgeball also makes me realize that I should never underestimate my enemies. I believe we will be able to win the first place next time.” One of the red team members, Anny Chen said that “although playing dodgeball seems quite boring, you will enjoy yourselves when you are play.”
The game was won by a black horse, team orange! Eventually, they had a chance to play against the teachers’ team. After the competition, Amber Jin said, “I really enjoy playing dodgeball. It not only trains our ability to cooperate but also gives us a chance to exercise.”
“This game leaves a really deep impression on me…” said Sally Sun, as an audience member of Team Pink. “Absolutely, the teachers’ team was the winner. Mr. Milne was really flexible. It completely subverted my impression of him. Mr. Hazel was also very powerful. He was expressionless when he threw the ball. He was the teacher team’s main force. We can call him Killer Leon. Last but not least, Jerry Liang, Steven Qiu and George Li are also very outstanding.”
In addition, because of the unbalance of forces between some teams, Sally also had some suggestions for dodgeball activities. She said that “overall, the competition is awesome. However, I hope the configuration of each team’s strength can be more fair.”
During this period of time, I felt that all grades got along with each other more harmoniously. It was the start of a new school year, and we welcomed the new members from Grade 10. At first, we were not familiar with each other, however dodgeball was a good opportunity to promote communication between students from every grade.
Dodgeball’s success cannot be held without every students’ good mentality and unity of morale. I am delighted that we still have such an exciting and meaningful activity as we strive to deal with assignments every day. We can not only exercise but also know more about each other. I hope that the student council and school can provide more events to enrich our school life.
