In the blink of an eye, almost two months of school have already flown by. The warm months of summer are fading away into a cool spring. Students are getting into a groove, setting positive habits to serve them well throughout the year. Ideas are being shared and work is getting done.

We’re getting very strong club participation this year, especially fitness and Ultimate clubs. The field is dominated by Luwan BC students every lunch period as they keep in shape and perfect their Frisbee toss. I’m also seeing a lot of good work in other clubs and look forward to seeing their works come to fruition.

I’m very excited to see the various passion projects. Students are designing buildings, initiating public awareness campaigns, building art portfolios and advocating for environmental issues, only to name a few. They are getting feedback from teacher, peers and mentors to help refine their work. This will all no doubt help students in the future.

I’m also very thankful for the parents who have agreed to come visit our school to share their valuable work experience and knowledge about the Chinese job market. Students are getting first-hand knowledge about working in various industries in China such as marketing, design, chemistry and medicine. Luwan BC’s parents truly represent diverse and outstanding professional backgrounds.

Last but not least, students have been benefiting a lot from connecting with post-secondary institutions. Many of Canada’s best universities have come to visit us already, like the University of Toronto and the University of Waterloo. The grade 12s have also had the opportunity to visit the annual Nanmo university fair, which had 12 universities in attendance this year.

Two months have almost gone by, and there is a lot more yet to come. The student council has been busily organizing the Halloween events and decorations. Students will continue to push their limits in class as well with their public speaking, science fair, creative writing and others.

This is looking to be a great year for Luwan.

Onward and upward!
