After Chinese New Year and the winter vacation, this is the last semester for the grade 12s in Luwan Senior High School. Mr. Hazel helps us set some goals and mentioned some important events during the assembly on November 23th. “I’m very delighted to see so many creative activities this year,” said Steven Wu. “I was glad to see my classmates after this winter holiday.” Mr. Hazel also emphasized that it was not the time for Grade 12 students to slack off in their studies, although some of them have already received admission offers from universities. In order to satisfy the offers’ conditions, students have to be stricter with themselves and prepare for English 12 provincial exam and other important tests. This reminds us to adjust our state from holiday to school in order to rise to the challenge.

Among these school activities, a new round of Luwan Chit Chat successfully caught our eyes. In Lilian’s words, she thought that Chit Chat was “a surprise and a nightmare”, since we have not held Chit Chat for such a long time. However, English communication plays an important role for students who want to study abroad, especially for Grade 12 students. Chit Chat contributes to helping us adapt to an English-speaking environment more quickly so that we can fit into the multi-cultural society we run into overseas. Grade 12 student, Amber Jin, expressed her opinion of Chit Chat: “When I heard we will have Chit Chat again, there was a contradiction in my mind. Chit Chat gives us more chance to speak English, but it was very competitive among the six house teams. All in all, I still think Chit Chat is very useful to us.” Other than Chit Chat, the student council is also planning to do some new events. Michelle, president of the student council stated: “We will sell postcards in March. We will also hold Easter activities, an Amazing Race and a Scavenger Hunt.”

At the end of the assembly, teachers awarded students who had earned an excellent GPA last semester. John Jiang said, “I am surprised that the Grade 11 students did such a good job. There were so many students on the Principle’s List last term.” In this assembly, approximately 81% of the students’ GPAs were above 3.00. Among these students, 21% of them gained the outstanding academic accomplishment of achieving a GPA at least 3.70, making the Principal’s list. It is very exciting to see most of the students making great progress in their studies. Congratulations to all of us! I hope that we can continue to strive and appreciate every moment that we have in high school in order to not to leave school regretful.
