Over two intensive days from November 29th to November 30th, the BC Ministry of Education conducted its annual inspection of Luwan Senior High School’s BC Program. The inspection team commended the BC program on a number of fronts.

First of all are the strong bonds between the domestic and BC program. Chinese and BC teachers are collaborating together on a number of fronts and learning from each other. They are developing new school wide policies together and sharing strategies and methods of implementation.  Both sides are talking together to gain a better overall understanding.

The inspectors also noted that the BC program has access to state of the art facilities. Most noteworthy are the newly renovated physics, chemistry, biology and robotics labs. Teachers and students will continue to take ever greater advantage of these opportunities. The BC program also has a brand new computer lab which has helped with providing online courses and for self-directed learning.

It was also apparent to the inspectors that Luwan BC has gone above and beyond on many fronts to implement the new curriculum with its emphasis on the core competencies of communication, critical thinking, creative thinking, positive personal & cultural identity, personal awareness & responsibility, and social responsibility. This is not only apparent in the students own passion projects, but also in classroom instruction, such as the science fair assignment.

The English language achievements at Luwan BC were also duly noted. This is evident in their scores on last year’s provincial exams which were nearly as high as students in British Columbia where many students have English as their first language. It is also evident in all of the great English discussions going on in the classroom and in the hallways outside of class every day.

Overall, the inspectors have congratulated Luwan BC for all the hard work everyone has been doing and for the positive attitudes and smiling faces.

We look forward to welcoming the inspectors next year to share with them our accomplishments.

Sincerely,

Ron Berg
